A self sufficient country with renewable energy

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy has launched a new community based power generation project titled ‘Soorya Bala Sangramaya’ (Battle for Solar Energy) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA), Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Lanka Electricity Company (Private) Limited (LECO) to promote the setting up of small solar power plants on the rooftops of households, religious places, hotels, commercial establishments and industries.

It is expected to add 200 MW of solar electricity to the national grid by 2020 and 1000 MW by 2025 through this intervention. Under this program, the consumers will have options to generate and use electricity in their premises. In case of electricity in excess of their requirements, they can sell the excess to the national grid or bank it for later use. According to the electricity usage the customer can select a preferred option from the following three schemes: Net Metering, Net Accounting and Micro Solar Power Producer.

Solar power plant for your home

Benefits you get

  1. Depending on the method you choose, the total cost of electricity bill can be fully earned.
  2. Subsidies for purchase of solar power plants from public and private sector commercial banks on refund basis up to seven years.
  3. For the excess units you generate from your solar power plant you will get paid rs 22 per unit for the first seven years and rs 15.50 for the rest of the 15 years.

Benefits to the country

  1. Since solar power is a free source of energy, the amount of foreign exchange spent on energy (fuel and coal) can be reduced.
  2. The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted into the atmosphere as a result of the reduction of environmental damage and the generation of electricity from thermal power plants is estimated to be in the range of Mt. 150,000 can be deducted.
  3. The balance of the electrical system is easy to maintain.
  4. Minimizing damage to transmission and distribution of electricity.
  5. Enabling all people to get involved in electricity generation which is currently limited to big business.
  6. As there is a small scale power generation system across the country, it can also positively impact national security.
  7. Since the vast majority of consumers are electricity producers, the income disparity in the income generation will reduce the disparity in income distribution in the country.
  8. By the year 2025, the national grid will be connected to the grid. 1000 can be added.
  9. The awakening of this sector creates a large number of new employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly.

Choose the right scheme for your consumption pattern

Net ACCOUNTING

If the generated units of electricity using the solar panels fixed on their houses/premises are greater than the amount he consumed, the customer will be paid Rs.22.00 per unit during the first 07 years and from the 8th year he will be paid Rs. 15.50 per unit. If the consumption is greater than he generated, the consumer has to pay at the existing electricity tariff for the excess electricity consumed.

Net METERING

If the number of units of electricity generated by the solar power plant installed on the roof is less than the number of units consumed, pay only for that change. If there is a surplus in the number of units generated, the balance can be maintained in the event of a deficit of up to 10 years.

Net PLUS

Getting paid for the amount of electricity generated using the solar panels fixed on their houses/premises. Unlike net metering method there is no linkage in-between the electricity consumption of the customer and the electricity generation. The customer has to pay for the electricity consumed according to the existing tariff. Electricity Board will pay for the total amount of electricity he generates.

Strategic Partners

We’re the only Sri Lankan Solar company which has authorised Service partnership with all our Strategic partners.

CellPower specializes in the installation of the latest solar photovoltaic electricity systems that are both easy to maintain and help in reducing your energy bills. These systems follow the Net Metering scheme, a novel concept in renewable energy—introduced by the government LECO and the Ceylon Electricity Board.
